THE BANKS OF THE BANN
When first to this country a stranger I came
I placed my affection with a comely young dame
She being fair and tender, her waist small and slender
Twas nature had formed her for my over throw
On the banks of the Bann, it was there I first met her,
She appeared like an angel or Egypts fair Queen
Her eyes like the diamonds or stars brightly shinning
Shes one of the fairest in the world I have seen
Now it was her cruel parents that first caused a variance
Because they where rich and above my degree
But I do endeavour to gain my loves favour
Although she is come from a high family
Now my name is Delaney its a name that wont shame me
And if I'd saved money I'd never have roamed
But drinking and sporting night rambling and courting
Are the cause of my ruin and absence from home
Well if I had all the riches that are in the Indies
Id but rings on her fingers and gold in her ears
And ever on the banks of that lovely Bann river
In all kinds of splendour Id live with my dear
